Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority raised control tools system for food contact to the Council of Ministers
Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology "specifications" raised "Emirati system for the control of materials and tools which contact with food " to the Council of Ministers in preparation for approval as a mandatory in the UAE after being adopted by the Board of Directors at its fifth meeting for the current year.
Abdullah Almainy, Acting General Director of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology in a press statement issued by the Authority yesterday that the new system aims to ensure the availability of health conditions and safety standards in the materials and tools which contact with food by making sure no harmful material of any kind may intervene in the composition of these products that can be transported to the food by touching, in addition to ensuring the absence of any effect of such material on virtual sensory qualities of foods in terms of color, taste and smell.
He added that "the UAE's system of control over the materials and tools which contact food " was prepared du to the negative effects that may be caused by these materials and tools on public health through the possibility of leakage of some chemical compounds from the packaging material into the food concentrations and levels may pose a threat to human health or during what has been caused by changes in food products as a result of the interactions that occur between food and packaging material.
He said that the new system has been prepared in accordance with the best international standards in this area and based on the decision of the Council of Ministers No. 11 of 2013 and adoption of mandatory standard, the general requirements of the specifications contact materials for food and based on federal law of creation of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, which states that the application of the standard specifications approved is mandatory by a decision of the Council of Ministers based on the suggestion of the Board of Directors for considerations of safety, public health & the environment, consumer protection and ensuring the public interest.
