• Do you give us an
idea of the beginning for the center?
Sheikh
Sabah Al-Ahmad Urology Center was opened in 2012, by His Highness the Emir,
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad. The idea of the project based on the princely desire
since 2008, where His Highness expressed his desire to create a specialized
center in the field of urology in high level comparable to international
standards. And then the Council of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Health
to carry out such a project and the completion of the princely desire.
A
joint committee from the Amiri Diwan and the Ministry of Health was formed to
carry out this project. After a study by the Commission of the necessary
equipment and designs related to this project, it has been approved at a cost
of 14 million and 240 thousand dinars in health-Sabah area next to the
cardiology Hospital, overlooking the Arabian Gulf, on the land of an area of
approximately 20 thousand square meters, and the average flat space for the
each role of the building of 2500 square meters, while the rest of the land
area allocated for green spaces and parking spaces for 500 cars.
The
project was completed in record time amounted to nine months. The building
consists of eight innings in which seven outpatient clinics and the department
of management and pharmacy, in addition to the full lab contains all the
necessary hardware and integrated radiology department integrated for
everything related to urinary tract, and the center also has four operating
rooms and intensive care attached to it, and a capacity of 80 beds for patients
divided into four suites, including a children's ward of 20-beds beside ward
for women of 20 beds, in addition to the
two wings for men of 40 beds.
The
center was established according to the latest international specifications and
standards related to the design, implementation and equipment, as it was
provided with modern medical equipment and supplies in line with the latest
global developments and techniques of diagnosis and treatment compliant with
quality and safety standards and safety of patients.
In
this regard, it must be pointed out that Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for
Urology is integrated and unique and dedicated only for the urinary tract, and
unparalleled in the whole world, with the exception of the kidney center in the
city of Mansoura, Egypt, which are unparalleled in the United States or Europe..
The
quality of the operations carried out at the center is leading and unique, it
is the first in Kuwait where the operations are performed by a robot
device, as Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Center
for Urological is the first medical facility which use this device to conduct
operations, by 17 major operation such as prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy and repair birth defects
of kidney, in addition to the adrenectomy, since the opening of the center to
now, these operations were not conducted in Kuwait in the past.
It
should be noted that the process of radical prostatectomy performed for free at
the center cost about 200 thousand dollars in US hospitals.
• What are the
rates of Erectile Dysfunction in Kuwait?
- ED rates in
Kuwait is high, comparable to global averages, which is approximately 30
percent in general, and this percentage rises with increasing age and up to 80
percent of men over the age of 65. ED in men depends on many considerations,
including his health, and whether he was suffering from diseases such as
diabetes or hypertension or diseases of the nerves or hormonal diseases,
although smoking leads to impotence in men.
• What are your
future projects in the center?
- We are now
working to attract specialized skills and and high efficiency in the specialty
of urology, and we intend to create a unit for diseases of infertility, and
then we need to specialized doctors in infertility, and we set up before a
special unit of Urology for Women in collaboration with the boards of the
gynecology and Obstetrics , and employs specialists in the urology of women.
In
general, we are now working on the development of a special unit of the ROBOT
device, to conduct all cases and processes within Kuwait, which need to travel
those cases for medical treatment abroad. We are also working to bring
specialized skills in the ROBOT operation, to perform complex operations, such
as the eradication or cultivation of bladder, instead of traveling these cases
for medical treatment abroad.
