Rami Yasin: inaccurate blood sugar readers of "Abbott" do not exist in kingdom of Saudi Arabia market

Medical Company "Abbott" has announced its call some sugar reading devices of specific models in some countries, confirming that these devices which showed inaccurate results of low readings and inaccurate level of sugar in the blood in conjunction with Freestyle tapes and Freestyle Lite does not distribute in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


According to director of technical and regulatory affairs of the Middle East at the company Rami Yasin: "It is within the framework of the Abbott keenness on the need of safety procedures, they have to communicate with the General Authority for Food and Drug Administration; to illustrate the expected effects of this technical flaw."

The company warned that in the case of obtaining a Freestyle Classic devices, Freestyle Flash & Freestyle Mini, Freestyle Navigator, & Freestyle Oomeneybod, it is individual responsibility ; as they aren't marketed by Abbott in the kingdom, the company recommends to communicate with service team customers on the number 1238 124 800 Ext 425 to replace the device free, stressing that other sugar measuring devices marketed by the company in the kingdom were not affected by this recall.

The General Authority for Food and Drug Administration has warned that the use of screening blood sugar bars "free style" with blood sugar measurng devices "free style" model and Built-in Oomeneybod devices known as insulin management system and manufactured by Abbott Diabetes company Care Company.

 Increased thirst, Frequent urination, Extreme hunger, Unexplained weight loss, Slow-healing sores, to consult a specialist and investigate in a certified laboratory.

 They said there are standard tests to confirm diagnosis and for  routine follow up which are Random blood sugar test & Fasting blood sugar test & Oral glucose tolerance test in addition to some in addition to some special tests for follow up such as Glycated hemoglobin (A1C) test.   Which indicates average blood sugar level for the past two to three months.
