AIDS patient costs Saudi Arabia about 333 Saudi riyals per day
Ministry of Health announces that it discovered about 1777 AIDS cases during the year 2013, including 542 Saudis,
a patient with HIV (AIDS) costs the Saudi state budget of 333 riyals (88.8 $) per day.
"Moses Hiazaa" the supervisor of the programs and activities of the Saudi Society for AIDS patients said that: the cost of treating AIDS patients is about 333 riyals per day, at a rate of 10 thousand per month, and a total of 120 thousand riyals per year per patient.
The Ministry of Health has announced the discovery of 1777 cases of AIDS during 2013, including 542 Saudis, which means that the treatment cost was approximately 65.04 thousand riyals.
Patients are treated in specialized governmental centers distributed to all cities in the Kingdom, which has a population of about 30 million, including about 20 million citizens.
United Nations Development Program (UNDP) says that it has been reported about 10 thousand cases of AIDS in the kingdom since 1986; when the first AIDS case in Saudi Arabia discovery.
The Chairman of the Saudi charity for AIDS patients Sana Ben Mustapha said in last September that 96% of cases of AIDS in Saudi Arabia caused by sexual contact.
