United Arab Emirates: Device that measures the level of sugar without blood sample

The latest medical devices to control the level of sugar in the blood will be revealed through Emirates Fifth Conference of diabetes, which will start its activities next Thursday at the Dubai World Trade Centre for Convention and Exhibition, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance,

This small device can be put only on the patient's hand without the need for the prickling to 
take a small sample of blood to see the level of blood sugar, where the device works on a permanent reading and therefore easier for the patient during communication with the competent doctor to reduce or increase the dosage or the proportion of insulin taken by a patient per day to adjust the sugar level in the body and avoid complications.

:3000 doctors

Dr. Abdul Razzaq Almadany Diabetes and Endocrinology consultant and President of the Emirates Diabetes Society, said that the conference, which will be attended by nearly 3,000 specialist doctors and staff nursing, and in collaboration with the American Association of Endocrine will discuss the latest developments related to diabetes in terms of medicines and new drugs devoted to adjust the level of blood sugar in addition to new hormonal drugs that have been recently put forward in the global markets, as well as how to avoid complications associated with the disease, and the processes banding or cutting or stapling the stomach to reduce weight, which enables the patient to control the sugar, pointing out that obesity is one of the most important causes of disease as well as genetic factors and lifestyle change.

Dr. Almadani said: self-censorship by the patient is the best to control diabetes, pointing out that the cumulative examination is globally adopted by federal Diabetes years ago proved that it is ineffective in controlling sugar level because it gives the reading of sugar level rate in the blood for the last three months, pointing out that the sugar may rise long periods then fall and thus the approximate reading isn't inaccurate.

He pointed out that diabetics should check on the level of sugar daily and communicate with the competent doctor to either increase the dose or reduced, and stressed on the need for patient monitoring to avoid the silent complications caused by the disease, and an examination every three or six months of the retina, the blood pressure, cholesterol, kidneys, limbs and arteries to see the performance of those members and avoid health problems caused by the disease.

Dr. Abdul Razzaq Almadany called for accelerating the establishment of a unified data for patients with diabetes at the state level to find out the real numbers of diseased people, stressing on the need for education and training of medical, educational and nursing staff on how to deal with the patient and directed him to follow the correct dietary patterns and how many calories they need according to the length of the weight and others.


He stressed on the importance of not allowing the sale of snacks and meals that contain a high concentration of sugars and starches in the schools, in addition to opening more specialized clinics.
