Endogamy is the main reason for Embryos deformation in KSA

Maternity and fetuses’ medicine and critical cases consultant, and the assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine at King Saud University, Dr. Yasser Sabr, said that the embryos deformation ratio in Saudi Arabia is 3% regarding to the latest researches. He explained that marriage of relatives in the Kingdom is one reason for the fetuses’ deformations comparing to the western nations. The Faculty of Medicine at King Saud University is doing specific researches in order to know the ratios and types of these deformations.

The urinary tracts and the nervous system are the two common places to find deformations. He exposed that the fetus water must not be less than 5 cm in the natural pregnancy cases. They can measure the fetus water by using the Ultrasonic rays.

Dr. Sabr added that the main resource of the fetus water is the fetus’s kidneys, and the less the water is, the better the fetus and his kidneys are. In addition, in case of there are problems in the functions of the kidneys of the fetus, the fetus water will be decreased. He explained the reasons behind the problem of fetus water reduction such as; the descent of the water before the period of labor, the fetuses’ kidneys problems, viral inflammations and some fetal deformations, which can cause kidneys’ deformations and Placenta’s malfunction to supply the fetus with food and oxygen. The fetuses’ deformation are common among the pregnant women, who are older than 35 years old, according to the studies and researches in this field.

Many mothers are made to do the microscopic insemination outside the womb to avoid the repeated genetic deformations of their fetuses. These operations are very costly, one operation may cost 15-20 thousands SR. Some microscopic insemination operation, which require fetuses’ diagnosis before the implantation inside the uterus. These operations make the total cost is around 40 thousand SR according to the hospital, which the parents are dealing with.
