Dr. Masoud al-Qahtani succeed in saving a Saudi 60 years old patient from blindness

Medical team at ophthalmology department of  Asir Central Hospital in Saudi Arabia succeed to rescue a patient from  blindness,who was almost losing her sight by doing valve implantation to treat refractory high ocular pressure .



The 60 years old patient complained from chronic high intra-ocular pressure and did not respond to the drugs, and then due to severe pain she was subjected to surgery and the patient regained the ability to see after almost lose it.

Media spokesman of "Health Asir" MR/ Saeed bin Abdullah said that Dr. Masoud al-Qahtani Cataract and Glaucoma Consultant" who performed the operation successfully.


Dr.Al-Qahtani Said: "high intra-ocular pressure" Glaucoma"leads to vision loss gradually and can not be retrieved with medicines or surgical operations if it isn't done at the appropriate time.

He added that valve Operation is performed in advanced and incurable cases; Because other traditional operations may not succeed in treatment and the elder people with diabetes or smokers and older men who suffer from excessive coagulation in the blood, they are more susceptible to glaucoma.



This achievement is added to the track record of the Department of Ophthalmology at the hospital, which has received considerable support .The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties recently admitted the Department of Ophthalmology of Asir Central Hospital as a training center for the specialty of ophthalmology in the training of resident physicians.

  This achievement culminates what the department and the hospital are enjoyed by the great support provided by the General Director of Health Affairs in Asir, Dr. Ibrahim bin Suleiman Alhfeza, under serious follow-up from General supervisor of Asir Central Hospital, Dr. Abdullah bin Saeed Al Awdah.
