Dr. Hayat Solomon Cindy impose itself in the largest biotechnology research centers in the world

The European Center for Nuclear Research called her as a model for the figures encouraging youth to demand for scientific research , and chosen by the General Secretary of the United Nations within the Consultative Group of Scientific , a goodwill ambassador for UNESCO , in addition to a selected member of the Saudi Shura Council . This appreciation and valuation of the Mecca's daughter, actually allowed to declare today : "I have achieved my father's well when he told me :"Hayat, Lift my head  "

On the sidelines of a demonstration TEDxCERN 2014 " which embraced by the headquarters of the European Center for Nuclear Research ( CERN ), mainly on the border between France and the Swiss city of Geneva , which directed the invitation to the Arabic researcher in Biology Dr. Hayat Solomon Cindy , along with a group of scientists and researchers in the world, swissinfo.ch met Dr. Hayat to shed light on the path of a Saudi woman was able to demonstrate that it is possible for a woman to come out of the womb of a conservative society like Saudi society , and to impose itself in the largest research centers in the world , and in one of the most accurate and most complex scientific research areas " biotechnology . " the more interestingly is that the daughter of Mecca did not abandon its commitment to their religion and culture , and imposed the respect and acceptance of everyone .

From Mecca to Harvard : The Challenge , perseverance , humanity and service
The European Centre for Nuclear Research choose Hayat Cindy, as an example of determination and perseverance to achieve the desired goal in the field of scientific research , reflected in her path which made daughter of Mecca involved in the largest scientific research laboratories in the world , and in the major leagues and international institutes from Harvard and Cambridge to Massachusetts Anstot of Technology.

This passion for scientific research acquired in the life of Cindy from her parents, she says : "they encouraged me to love science and scientific research , which prompted me to ask to go to Britain for further study . But , despite the fear of cultural difference and community habits , they responded to my request in 1991 , by their confidence in my ability to achieve the desired goal . "
Parental confidence alone was not enough , especially when you find yourself in the middle of the prior holds ideas for your area, and when you feel that you do not speak English and do not have the scientific qualifications to impose yourself in the middle of elitist privilege .at the beginning of it ,make them to judge me that , " I am not eligible , nor useful ,and was marginalized," she says .
This initial rejection was born with the desire to prove the contrary , particularly as it was felt that "I  have the internal capacity to achieve the goal of becoming a researcher , if given the opportunity .

The opportunity afforded exploited Hayat Sindi best , where she improved proficiency in the English language and was able to obtain a certificate of British secondary seal lessons . Which opened the door of her access to " King's College " , then at the University Joined " Cambridge " and then later graduated in 2001 as the first Gulf lady get a doctorate in the field of biotechnology .

Achieve the desired goal , and the transition to a recognized researcher in many of the world's laboratories , did not stop her , and was the end of her career , but also encouraged her to become one of  voices of the " Science to serve humanity ." She says in this context : "When deepened in the field of scientific research , you want to apply the wisdom "the best of you who to learn the science and publish the benefit of it, " and this is what prompted me to enter into discussion with the scientists that this science should not remain confined to laboratories , but should benefit humanity in solving their problems , like generating electricity in Africa , or water purge in Vietnam and other ...

From the theoretical to the practical.

This need to harness science for the benefit of humanity and to solve the world's problems , Dr. Hayat Sindi began to apply in her practical life . she has engaged in " Diagnosis for All" project, which she participated in the Harvard University with scientific team in order to facilitate medical diagnosis in poor and remote areas away from medical laboratories able to conduct the necessary analysis processes for early diagnosis of diseases .

The idea is  simplified in a piece of paper of a postage stamp size, in which there are certain chemicals , then receive a drop of the patient's blood in order to make an immediate diagnosis. The first application field for the idea is African countries where patients use drugs against tuberculosis or AIDS , and it is enough to give a drop of blood to determine the size of drug concentration in the liver , which if exceeded the limit, may become more dangerous to a person's life than the disease itself . This process, which requires laboratory analysis for several days to get the result , can be performed by the physician in the African areas with ease , by watching the color change of the paper and result obtained on the spot .

When the project is presented to colleagues , everyone laughed , but I insisted on the need to develop the project and to participate in the contest . When we won in the competition with both Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Bill Gates Foundation has given us the necessary funding . "

The second project is to establish Hayat Cindy Institute for " imagination and ingenuity " to encourage young scientists in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world , when they seek to achieve their ambitions and implementing innovations in their countries , and for the young people urged to pay attention to scientific research and inventions that take into account the environment and sustainable development .

At the same time , Dr. Hayat Sindi want this to become the Institute , and later other branches of it in the Arab world , as a starting point for the reception of the Arab researcher or Arab researcher returning to their homeland and to stand by them in their attempts to harness scientific knowledge to solve problems in the region , especially since the Arab world suffers from many of the problems in the water and the environment , health and the fight against poverty and other areas . As the region's problems are similar , they almost say, " If I received a researcher from Algeria and one from Egypt and Saudi Arabia , the third of these may be involved in the development of an application, and provide him the necessary conditions for the marketing , which makes all the markets in the region benefit from it ."

Advanced scientific thought .. and stuck spiritual and cultural values
When asked about the secret of this adherence to the spiritual and cultural values ,Dr. Hayat Sindi answered: " I am proud of each stage of my life , not , as some say, only those that brought me to the limelight through passage by major global laboratories that served as motivation for the challenge and specialization in the field which I want , even those years that I spent in the kingdom during secondary education , which enabled me to get on the foundations of religious culture that made me proud of my identity , and I know my purpose in life , and how scoff science for community service . and thanks to my teachers and my father . "

Overall, Dr. Arabia considers that participation in such advisory councils allows her to be " a scientist and decision-makers at the same time ." In this context , she did not hesitate to express her intervention in the context of a ceremony to honor her in Mecca by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal about "Hope to see Saudi women participate in decision-making " , before knowing that she was chosen for the membership of the Council .
